Responsive (Mobile Friendly) websites
We have actually been designing ‘Responsive’ style websites for quite some time now. The reason for including them here, as a “new facility”, is to (a) remind clients that they can have their recruitment sites designed using these frameworks and (b) to advise we have augmented our facilities so we can really push this technology to its current limits.
If you don’t know what a ‘Responsive’ website is then here is a brief explanation; it is a set of technologies and practices that aims to have a website adapt to the device that is being used to view it on the web. In simple terms this means that it will alter the display to suit e.g. a desktop PC or a mobile phone. You will likely have seen and used such websites before, they are particularly favoured by Design and the smaller IT companies and they fill the browser screen and resize automatically to fit the screen. You can see an example of this on our http://www.talentportals.net site (see enc graphic).
We ourselves believe the benefits of “Responsive” design can sometimes be oversold. We have for over five years delivered mobile optimised phone sites, and find that nothing beats a dedicated mobile phone optimised site for speed and usability. However we do also like the general look and feel that you can achieve with Responsive Technologies (so why not use both…).
About half the sites we produce currently now utilise responsive frameworks. We have also been adding to our design software and now can produce responsive styled sites using several frameworks. We are particularly excited by our capability for delivering sites using the Zurb Foundation framework (crazy name, crazy guys). Using Zurb we can now offer even faster responsive sites, with smoother animation and hardware acceleration (the framework is reputed to be the fastest currently available). All this can really matter when designing mobile friendly websites as mobiles don’t have the processing power of a desktop PC and take longer in general to download web files, especially over the phone network.
If you are keen to look at having a mobile version (or mobile optimised version) for your site then do contact us.
